Product safety is a top priority for home appliance manufacturers, and both AHAM and its members are actively engaged in the development and revision of safety standards in North America and globally. Consumers recognize this commitment and the significant investment AHAM members make in education and customer service to prevent injury, and the numbers prove it: AHAM research found that 93% of consumers believe home appliance manufacturers do a good job providing safe and quality appliances, and 85% understand that safety is a top priority for the home appliance industry.

AHAM represents appliance manufacturers before standards-development organizations and government agencies, including the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and Health Canada. This is critical, as changes to safety standards can have a major impact on product performance, design and cost. Manufacturers and consumers share the benefits of AHAM’s strong commitment to product safety.

AHAM works with its members to develop and submit product safety proposals to standards-development organizations and represents the home appliance industry during the process of updating and revising standards to ensure that safety standards keep up product innovations.
