The Wireless Communications industry has petitioned the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to require manufacturers of microwave ovens to limit the emissions from these products. AHAM is opposing this petition.
The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) denied the Wireless Carriers “Petition for Reconsideration” that would have imposed an emission (power) limitation on microwave ovens in the 2496-2500 MHz bandwidth. This decision is a significant victory for the appliance industry and was made as a part of the Commission’s April 12 business meeting. If the Wireless Carriers’ petition had been granted, the FCC would have issued regulations that would have required significant (and unnecessary) redesigns to microwave oven features, and changes to way that microwave ovens operate.
