In order to join the program, manufacturers must certify the Water Removal Capacity and Energy Factor for all models distributed to the US and Canada. AHAM verifies these ratings through testing at a third party independent laboratory using the American National Standard, ANSI/AHAM DH-1 test method.
If a unit does not meet the stated performance rating, the manufacturer must re-rate the product or withdraw the product from the market.
The manufacturer must place the AHAM Certification Seal directly on each certified room air cleaner and/or its box/packaging.
