For more than 25 years, AHAM has been developing voluntary technical standards that are in the best interest of consumers, the industry and all other interested parties. AHAM standards relate primarily to the measurement of specific product performance characteristics for major and portable appliances. Standards development for floor care appliances occurs mainly within the ASTM International Committee F11 on Vacuum Cleaners.
AHAM Standards are developed in accordance with AHAM's "Policy and Procedures Governing Technical Standards."
AHAM welcomes comments and suggestions regarding any AHAM standard. Any standard may be reviewed and improved as needed.
With regard to appliance safety, AHAM recommends that all appliance products – major, portable and floor care -- manufactured or marketed in the United States be submitted to an appropriate independent testing laboratory for inspection and listing in conformance with the appropriate national safety standard.
