As part of AHAM’s strategic vision for the
future, in 2010, AHAM began the process of
developing sustainability standards for select
home appliances. The appliance industry
is a leader in environmental excellence and is
committed to develop product-based
sustainability measures that will provide
manufacturers and their stakeholders including
retailers, consumers and others with tools to
assess the environmental attributes of
appliances.
The first standard,
AHAM
7001-2012 Sustainability Standard for Household
Refrigeration Appliances, was published in
June 2012. Additional standards covering
Portable and Floor Care products and clothes
washers will be published in early 2013.
Also in 2013, AHAM will publish standards on
non-microwave kitchen cooking appliances,
dishwashers and clothes dryers.
AHAM has developed its sustainability
standards in partnership with CSA Group, UL
Environment and Five Winds Consulting (part of
PE International).
