Rachel McCormick

Rachel McCormick has more than 20 years’ experience in the energy and environment field. She currently heads the energy and environment section at the Embassy of Canada in Washington, D.C.. Rachel joined the Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development in 2005. Since then she has held management positions in divisions responsible for sustainable development, climate change, and circumpolar affairs. Rachel has represented the Government of Canada in a range of international forums, including the Arctic Council, the North American Commission on Environmental Cooperation, and the United Nations. Previously, she held positions within the Alberta energy sector and at the World Trade Organization in Geneva.

Rachel holds a doctorate in Environmental Design (Environmental Science) from the University of Calgary. Her research focused on how to incorporate environmental considerations into international trade and foreign direct investment. She carried out her undergraduate studies at the University of Saskatchewan where she received a B.A. (Hons) in Land Use and Environmental Studies, as well as a diploma in Economics.
