Do your PART: Protect Against Range Tipping
Free-standing kitchen ranges and improperly installed built-in ranges can tilt forward and cause serious injury or death if weight is applied to an open oven door.
While range tipping accidents can happen to anyone, small children and the elderly are especially vulnerable. Oven doors should never be used for support.
Fortunately, the chance that a range-tipping accident will occur can be easily reduced through the installation of an anti-tip device. Anti-tip devices are included with all new ranges. The devices secure the range to the floor, wall or cabinet to help prevent it from tipping. The device must be reengaged if the range is moved.
Make sure an anti-tip device is installed in your range. Contact the range manufacturer, your appliance dealer or an authorized service agent for information or assistance with range-tipping prevention or to obtain a replacement anti-tip device.
In addition to employing an anti-tip device, take these steps to minimize the risk for a range-tipping accident:
• Always keep the range door closed when it is not in use.
• Educate children on the proper and safe use of your range.
• Never use the range door as a step, seat or support for body weight or other objects.
Consult your range’s safety manual for instructions on how to check your range for proper installation of the anti-tip device.
