Safety Standards

AHAM's standards work helps preserve the safety, efficiency and performance of major, portable and floor care appliances.

AHAM believes it is critical to provide safe products that not only assist consumers, but enhance their lives and provide additional time for family and other priorities. AHAM members are committed to demonstrating leadership in the area of product safety and supporting the most comprehensive and effective consumer product safety system in the world.

AHAM provides a central voice for appliance manufacturers before standards-development organizations and government agencies, including the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and HealthCanada. This is critical, as changes to safety standards can have a major impact on product performance and design. AHAM and its member companies work to ensure that product safety standards are relevant both in the U.S. and globally.

AHAM is very active in the safety standards development and revision processes in North America and globally. To the extent possible, AHAM seeks global harmonization of product safety standards. Many of AHAM's numerous proposals on improvements to safety standards for major, portable and floor care appliances have been incorporated into the product standards.

Manufacturers and consumers share the benefits of AHAM’s strong commitment to product safety.
