The home appliance industry has a history of transitioning to the use of materials that lessen the environmental footprint of home appliances both in their use and management at the end of life. This includes more environmentally friendly refrigerants, reduced energy and water use, and recyclable materials in both appliances and appliance packaging.

AHAM led the development of the industry’s first sustainability standards, which give consumers, manufacturers, retailers and others tools by which to assess the environmental attributes of appliances.
