HomeWork features AHAM members’ insights on careers, success, life outside of work, and AHAM membership. This month, we spoke with Jarrod Greer, Sr. Market & BI Manager, Electrolux Group, and chair of AHAM’s Business Data Council.
How did you come to work in the home appliance industry, and what do you enjoy most about it?
I began my career delivering appliances as a high school student seeking a summer job. This was before the widespread use of GPS, so we navigated using maps, I planned routes, and delivered and installed appliances throughout the Atlanta area. What I've enjoyed most is the people—working alongside so many driven and intelligent individuals has been truly inspiring.
What is your dream job outside of the appliance industry?
I’m a bit of a “foodie” and would love to own and operate a restaurant one day. All of the moving parts, logistics, & interactions really intrigue me as well. I especially enjoy preparing Mediterranean dishes, and my favorite meal to create is brunch.
What are your secrets to maintaining work-life balance?
That's an excellent question. I prioritize using my PTO not just for vacations, but also for personal 'me' time. While much of that time is dedicated to household tasks, I also make sure to engage in hobbies or volunteer activities. My wife and I adopted this approach last year, and we've found it to be incredibly beneficial.
How do you stay up to date on industry trends?
We analyze all AHAM data within an on-premises customized dashboard, equipped with tools and visualizations that quickly identify trends and insights. Additionally, our team monitors several macroeconomic indicators that have a strong correlation with industry shipments. Our Business Intelligence team then leverages other resources to triangulate and synthesize this information.
What personal and professional goals are you currently pursuing?
On a personal level, I'm focusing on being more present and mindful this year. “Life moves pretty fast…”. Professionally, beyond following my career roadmap, I've also enrolled in a workshop to become a certified project manager.
What do you gain from your involvement in AHAM?
As chair of AHAM's Business Data Council, I get an opportunity to take pride in the quality of the data and work closely with AHAM on pressing issues that we collectively work to overcome. Being in this position has also allowed me to learn more about AHAM overall and share insights with colleagues.
What appliance can you not live without?
My Frigidaire Professional gas range alongside my cast iron skillets!
